The location of the sovereign

Philosopher differ in their opinion as where to locate the Supreme and indivisible powers of the state.
1. Location in the Parliament
John Locke suggested that the Supreme powers of the state are located in the Parliament. He argued that since the Parliament is elected by the electorate who indeed are the sovereign,  the Parliament, therefore,  exercises power on their behalf. This is the principle of representatives government.

2. Location in federal state
In unitary States (Britain), is suggested to be located in the executive and Parliament. In some other unitary States, the sovereign is not precisely located. This is because both federal and state governments tends to share powers of the state and government. Both practice legislative and administrative powers in the spheres allocated to them by the Constitution in which they possess independent power.

3. Location in a monarch

4. Location in the electorate

5. Location in an assembly of the citizens
